St. Christopher’s By-the-Sea Montessori School

Established in 1968, St. Christopher’s By-the-Sea Episcopal Church and Montessori School offers a holistic and competitive education for toddlers, preschool and elementary students on the beautiful island of Key Biscayne. Dr. Maria Montessori believed that children learn most efficiently by actively exploring the world around them and by observing others. The Montessori Method is widely acclaimed for preparing children to be innovators, problem solvers, and self-initiators across the curriculum. Upholding these values, St. Christopher’s is dedicated to the intellectual, physical and spiritual growth of every student. Children work in classes of mixed ages so they can assist their peers at lower levels of development and observe those at higher levels. Not only does this environment help students reinforce concepts, it also allows students to develop strong leadership qualities. Children receive lessons individually and in small groups, and progress to more complex materials when they have a solid understanding of the basics. The Montessori lessons naturally help to strengthen our students’ sense of order, concentration, coordination and independence. St. Christopher’s Montessori meets or exceeds all state and national curriculum requirements. Our program includes lessons that address the (5) Senses, Practical Life, Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, History, Geography, Art, Music, Technology, Spanish, and Physical Education. No other environment is so well equipped to see each child as an individual and to build the skills each child needs to take her/his place in our global community.

Throughout almost a half century, St. Christopher’s By-the- Sea Episcopal Church and Montessori School
has been dedicated to bestowing the immeasurable gift of education to our community. We’ve
educated students far beyond academics; guiding them to reach their full ability in every way. We’ve
educated the “whole” student and helped each child reach their own developmental, emotional and
spiritual potential. As your Principal, I am blessed and honored to experience its gifts every day with
    you.

Our church, administration, faculty, students and parents have worked together over many years to
make this the special place it’s become. Our faculty is impressive! They are nurturing, passionate about
teaching, and dedicated to provide an authentic yet competitive Montessori experience. They are
committed to academic excellence and supporting the entire child’s growth. Our students love to learn
and enjoy a good challenge! They are creative and collaborative. Our students are passionate about
their interests, driven to follow their dreams and well prepared to face their future successfully.

As we look ahead, we are excited about St. Christopher’s future. We look forward to collaborating with
you as we reach amazing new heights!
